Showing our gratitude for those who serve, and commissioning our new church leadership
Easter Sunday 2019
Christ is risen! He is risen, indeed!
Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ at the First Baptist Church in Sylva on Easter Sunday morning, April 21st at 10:30 AM. An Easter Egg Hunt for children will take place on our playground immediately following our service. Join us for worship on Easter Sunday morning at 10:30 AM as we rejoice in the Good News of the resurrection.
As a tradition, on Easter Sunday, we decorate the cross on our front porch steps with beautiful flowers brought in by our congregation. If you would like to bring flowers to decorate with, please bring them to the foyer of the church before Sunday School, or bring them on Good Friday and leave them in water.
Worship Service at Skyland Care Center
Ladies of the church,
Please join us Sunday, March 31 at 2:00 PM as we will have a church service for the residents at Skyland Care Center. Your presence is very important as we visit and worship with them.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
Begin your family’s Christmas celebration with the story of Christ’s birth! Join us on December 24th for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. Come early at 5:00 PM to light a candle in memory of a loved one and to hear Christmas music before the service. Then, beginning at 5:30 PM, our family-friendly service will capture the wonder of Christmas with familiar carols, the retelling of the Christmas story and the glow of candlelight. Afterwards, gather your family together in front of our beautifully decorated Christmas tree for that classic holiday photo. Don’t miss this opportunity to create lifelong memories with your entire family!
Adult Choir Christmas Program
Due to the snowstorm this previous weekend, our Adult Choir Christmas Program is rescheduled to occur in this Sunday's 10:30 AM worship service. We hope you can join us!
When the Weather Outside Is Frightful...
Here are a few things to remember when snow, sleet, and freezing rain are in the forecast:
1.) Wednesday evening programming will not be determined by local school closings. The church will broadcast any cancellation on Wednesday via an email, our church’s website, Facebook page and in the local media.
2.) If the weather proves to be inclement on Sunday morning, we will make every effort to have church. If that goal proves to be elusive, we will likely A.) cancel Sunday School and offer only Worship at 10:30 AM, or B.) Schedule worship at 2:00 PM in the afternoon.
You may determine the status of our church programming at any time by checking our website, Facebook page, or our local media. A decision will be made at least two hours prior to the regularly scheduled event.
Lastly, thank you for your understanding in advance as we strive to make decisions that are complicated by weather conditions which create different realities in our county due to location and elevation. Overwhelmingly, we are striving to provide continuity of ministry offerings while balancing concerns about road conditions.
Community Thanksgiving Worship Service
We will be hosting the annual Community Thanksgiving Service on November 18th at 6 PM. There will be a light reception in the MFC immediately following the service. Childcare will be provided in our nursery. We hope you and your family can come join us for this special worship service with our community.
