DID YOU KNOW????

In 2018 United Christian Ministries had 10,423 client contacts; THAT IS 40 LESS CLIENTS THAN THE PREVIOUS YEAR.  We are pleased that 40 clients from the previous year did not need our services again in 2018.    One of our goals is to help our clients have sufficient resources and the ability to care for themselves.

Seventy-one percent were over the age of 18.  Twenty nine percent were children in the household.

United Christian Ministries gave out more than 271,670 pounds of food.  Four hundred fifty school break bags were delivered to our elementary schools in December.  Our ministry also furnished 130 households with a turkey for their thanksgiving meal.

Food donations were abundant during the year.

Our ministry helped with electric bills for 243 families in the amount of $33,448.78.
Thirty- four families received $4966.29 in heating assistance.
Fifty- three families received help in the amount of $9918.50 to pay rent and prevent eviction.
Forty- eight families received $1266.78 for medical assistance.
Diapers/depends were given 186 times.
Household items and personal items were given 2799 times; our ministry spent $2522.38 purchasing these items during the year.  Many donations were also received during the year.
One thousand five hundred forty-eight dollars and forty cents helped 28 families with their water bills.
In addition to all the food donations, $19,046.86 was spent for food.
Transportation assistance was given to 6 families in the amount of $230.00
Donated linens, bed covers, furniture, and kitchen items were also given to our clients.

United Christian Ministries is celebrating its 30th year of serving Jackson County folk who have many needs. Let us help with the celebration by donating “30 Somethings”. Use your imagination – 30 rolls of toilet tissue, $30, 30 pounds of potatoes, etc. Work together with your Sunday School class, or your mission group, or the choir, or the staff. Let Tia know what you have done so it will be acknowledged as a challenge to others. In March fill the UCM donation box with “30 Somethings”.

These folks have responded!

Faith/Grace SS Class    $30
Joy SS Class                    30 lbs. potatoes + 20 bags coffee + cooking oil
Forrest Bryson Class     Case of Ramen noodles
Senior Men SS Class     120 Teabags
Ruth SS Class 30 boxes of macaroni and cheese
Individuals                     2 $30 checks + bags of flour + boxes of raisins

Watch the Missions bulletin board for updates and the great poster by Andrew Beck, our artist in residence!

March 31st is the last day of our “30 Somethings” celebration, so, if you haven’t finished your donation yet, try to get it in.  We have done so well!!!  Don’t be left out.

Spaghettios and Ravioli

December 9.png

Time is running out! Deadline, December 9.
Our church has pledged 450 cans of Spaghettios and Ravioli to help fill the Christmas break bags that United Christian Ministries is preparing to help feed Jackson County School children during the long break when lunches are not provided. At last count we had only 172 cans.
Donations are due in the Loving Kindness Room no later than Sunday, December 9. If you have no time to shop, a monetary donation of $1.00 per can will let someone else purchase the cans for you.

HOW IS YOUR MATH?

If our attendance at church is 125 and we need 450 cans of Spaghettios and Ravioli to meet our pledge in filling the Christmas Break Bags, how many cans do YOU need to bring?

Answer: 450 divided by 125 = 3.6 cans PER PERSON
(family of 4 = 15 cans, family of 3 = 11 cans, family of 2 = 7 cans, etc.) Of course, you may bring more!

Donations go into the UCM box in the Loving Kindness Room.

Christmas Break Bags

Our church has been asked to provide 450 cans of Spaghettios and Ravioli for the United Christian Ministries break bags which will be distributed to the 46% of the children who qualify for free breakfast and lunch when school is in session. Meeting the needs of hungry children locally is our way of responding to Jesus’ command to “go first to Jerusalem”. Donations are to be put in the UCM box in the Kindness Room.
